Your Health Detective: Contraindications of Food/Drugs

Because consumers are becoming more educated, hallelujah, they have become aware of the health-depleting effects of artificial sweeteners – particularly aspartame. That said, the manufacturers are always trying to keep one step ahead of consumers and re-brand, re-package and sell their sweetener under legal aliases. In this case, the new name for aspartame is AminoSweet®. Since my first language is Spanish, I translated their new name for this toxic sweetener as A-mi-NO…in other words, “not me.”

The manufacturer of this deceptively marketed product is the same one as that of aspartame – Ajinomoto, a Japanese company. The health risks of these products are still being debated, which is alarming to health investigators and practitioners like me who not only have experienced the terrible side-effects but see them on a regular basis in those we counsel.

Aspartame was FDA approved since 1981. It is a complex of two amino acids – methanol and phenylalanine. Because its chemical makeup is comprised of amino acids, it legally allows the manufacturer to actually, and deceptively, call it a “natural product.” That said, researchers report that these chemically-produced aminos, when ingested, can lead to excessive levels of phenylalanine known to cause emotional disorders, including depression. And, methanol, when the body breaks it down literally converts into formaldehyde – known to be extremely toxic to humans. When researchers identified the adverse effects of aspartame, they found them to be, but not limited to:

  • Trigger or accelerate brain tumors
  • Multiple sclerosis (MS)
  • Epilepsy,
  • Chronic fatigue syndrome
  • Parkinson’s disease
  • Alzheimer’s
  • Mental retardation and/or learning disabilities
  • Lymphoma
  • Birth defects
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Diabetes

Background…

Aspartame is an artificial, non-saccharide sweetener used as a sugar substitute in many foods and beverages – most commonly sold under the NutraSweet and Equal brand names.

Scientific Perspective…

Hold onto your seat…As reported in the Health Freedom Alliance papers, the FDA’s own toxicologist, Dr. Adrian Gross, told Congress that without a shadow of a doubt, aspartame can cause brain tumors and brain cancer and that it violated the Delaney Amendment – which forbids putting anything in food that is known to cause cancer.

“In 2005, the European Ramazzini Foundation published new findings of a long-term feeding study on aspartame conducted in rats. Scientists from ERF concluded from their study that aspartame causes cancer and the current uses and consumption of the sweetener should be re-evaluated.” Guess What? The EFSA and the FDA both then found that the ERF’s conclusion was not sufficiently supported by the data they collected, and that there was no need to, “further review earlier scientific opinion on the safety of aspartame or to revise the Acceptable Daily Intake”…Here we go again!

Aspartame and other similar artificial sweeteners like Sucralose are almost impossible for the body to break-down completely because it is totally foreign to what the body was designed to assimilate. We ARE organic beings, made to use organic food sources as fuel for our bodies. Because there are few natural processes that are able to pass these chemicals through our body, they are often stored and, yes, eventually cause weight gain and often the inability to lose it in spite of dieting. If that isn’t bad enough, artificial sweeteners contain free-methyl alcohol which is classified as a narcotic – causing methanol poisoning which affects the dopamine system of the brain and induces addiction.

New Name, Same Product…

Okay, now we know it’s extremely difficult, if not impossible, for the body to break down the essential elements of aspartame, it is physically addicting AND is known to actually cause diabetes. That accounts for why diet products eventually make you fatter than the original products! You need to know about the more recent attempt to entrap people into becoming slaves to dangerous product lines, that’s surely why “Aspartame” has been re-branded under the name “AminoSweet.” Yup, it’s not about providing a quality healthy product alternative to sugar, it’s about merely tricking the consumer into consuming chemical additives – that are addicting, I might add.

If it’s ever been important to read labels, here’s another reason to become the label-reading sleuth.

Healthy Sweet Alternatives…

LoHan (Monk Fruit)

Stevia

Since consumers worldwide are more aware of what they consume, experts believe the name change is merely a maneuver to add to the billions of dollars that already flows into the deep pockets of the Japan-based global manufacturers’ by re-branding the same artificial sweetener with a new name and new advertising and labeling calling it a “natural” product…which they can legally, at least at this juncture, claim.

I urge my clients, readers and followers to AVOID any and all artificial sweeteners and do what I’ve done – choose natural no-calories sweeteners like Stevia and LoHan (Monk fruit). The benefit in LoHan is that it measures JUST LIKE sugar for baking and cooking, whereas Stevia does not.

AminoSweet is STILL the same artificial sweetener as Aspartame with the SAME health risks – READ LABELS!
